A manufactured shortage to allow Chinese vegetable import?

There has not been drought, typhoon or infestation to impact vegetable output. So, what is causing the shortage? If you have an explanation for this shortage, please post it as a comment.

XIAMEN, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Some 22 tonnes of fresh vegetables were shipped on Tuesday from the Chinese mainland to Taiwan's Jinmen island to ease a shortage there.

The vegetables, which had been transported from Yunnan, Shandong and Liaoning provinces, were loaded onto a cargo vessel at Dadeng Port in Xiamen in southeastern China. The port is about one and a half hours by sea to Jinmen.

Customs and quarantine agencies in Xiamen opened an emergency "green channel" for the cargo to ensure smooth and quick customs clearance and loading of the cargo.

Trade companies expected the vegetables to be in Jinmen's markets early Wednesday morning. They promised the prices would be lower than those of Taiwan's locally produced vegetables.

Jinmen, which usually gets vegetable supply from other parts of Taiwan, has been suffering shortage of fresh vegetables in the past days because of rising prices, according to traders.

  1. Well, it has been Ma Ying-jeou's dream all along -- to replace everything "Made in Taiwan" with "Maid in China".

Didn't we hear he said couple days ago that he wanted to turn Taiwan into "pure Chinese culture" ?

Isn't it clear that's what he has been doing -- to completely destroy all Taiwaneseness ?

Following his recent policies, Taiwanese will lose most productivity, and can only rely on China's import to survive. And this will happen in all fronts, not just vegetables.

  2. Ma Ying-jeou is in fact repeating what Chen Yi did to Taiwan in 1945-1947, that is, to empty Taiwanese resources to benefit Chinese.

    Sound far-fetched ?

Compare what is in this blog article, with what is presented in George Kerr's "Formosa Betrayed":

"The sugar industry was of course the great prize. In 1939 Formosa had produced in excess of 1,400,000 metric tons of sugar. In 1947, the first full crop produced under Chinese management yielded only 30,000 metric tons. This was about the amount which had been produced in 1895 before the Japanese developed the industry, and a dramatic demonstration of the fate of the economy in Chinese hands. Production of sugar had fallen off in wartime because of labor shortages, a reduction of crop area, and lack of fertilizers. Nevertheless, huge quantities of raw sugar were stockpiled in 1945, waiting shipment to Japan's refineries. Most of the great cane-mills had suffered relatively little bomb damage, although they were suffering from wear and tear and from lack of proper maintenance. But in 1946 the sugar reserves which should have paid for rehabilitation were gone."

And this is just one example. Ma is sending all fronts of Taiwan resources to China like what Chen Yi did.

Taiwanese need to wake up. We was fighting for a sovereignty in the past couple of years. Now we are now fighting for freedom of speech, the basic right of democracy.

Soon, we will no longer be fighting for any basic human right or political right. Instead, we will be fighting for food. We will have to give up any other right just to survive.
